Document Size Limitations- Truck Advertizing

Hi,

 

I've currently undertaken a project for truck design.

They have requested for the final design to be 10% of the final size at 300 dpi and they will be using a large format printer, so no panel printing.

Here's the problem- even at 10% it is too large for the document restrictions.

 

The 24 ton truck at 10% of the final size is 1,278 meters by 228 meters.

 

All my Adobe programs won't even let me touch this final size, they limit me completely.

 

How do I create a final output size of 1,278 meters with the preset limitations and keeping a final output of 300 dpi?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I suspect that your calculations are at fault.

    No truck can be 12.78 metres high and if 228 metres is ten percent of the actual length then your truck is over 2 kilometres long.

    The mind boggles :-)

    Hmm, you might have a point there! Thanks, clearly I have been looking at this for too long.

    This is what was given to me in the actual email from the company...

          Vehicle sizes : 8 Ton - 7,000m x 2,830m

                               16 Ton - 8,500m x 2,480m

                               24 Ton - 12,780m x 2,280m

                               Front link - 6,520m x 2,870m

                               Rear link - 12,660m x 2,870m

    Lauren,

     

    You may work at 1:100, or any other suitable scale, and increase the resolution of raster parts (images, effects, whatever) accordingly; the key is to have the same number of pixels by pixels, so to get 300 PPI/DPI at 1:10 (10%) you need 3000 PPI/DPI at 1:100 (1%).

     

    The final size of 1:10 or 10% can be reached by saving to or printing as PDF, then increase the page size there, if actually needed (the PDF adapts to the final page size so you should be able to keep it at any scale).

    This must be a Dutch truck firm -- the comma is a decimal separator, not a thousands one

     

    So the 24 tonnes truck measures 12.78 m x 2.28 m (1278 x 228 cm), and at 10% of the size your design should be 127.8 x 22.8 cm. That's well within Illustrator's comfort zone of 270 x 270 inch.

    O.k., sounds like you've got things sorted out :-)

     

    Your biggest truck is nearly 13 metres long and just over 2 metres high.

    Like Jongware says, no problem for Illie in 10% scale.
