I have a .SWF file with quite a complicated search built in based on 6 search filters. I don't have the original file so can't get at the code.
Ideally what I want to do is just to import the old SWF with the search into a new .fla, then add a new skin/frame over the top.
Is this even possible?
going to import to stage and chosing the old SWF just gives me a static representation with no actionscript.
When you import an swf into a file, all actionscript is stripped from it. You need to load it dynamically and it should work if you do, although there may need to be some tweaking depending on how the loaded swf is designed/coded.
theoretically possible, it must be loaded dynamically and should know the name of the old variables swf, to send the new settings and should also know the name of the functions, which initiate the search
THen you can use the Loader class to load the file. Just get loading it to work first to see if the file works as hoped when it is loaded.
var ldr:Loader = new Loader();
(hopefully I didn't miss something basic in that)
After is is loaded and working you can deal with placement and adding dressing for it. If you want to you can add it into whatever skin movieclip using...
instead of the last line above.
