Hey,

can anyone tell me where the files from folios are saved? Can I see them somewhere? Can I export the folio? Is there any possibility to edit the data?

Thank you very much

you can find Location of Locally build folios in mac  :

    /Users/[user]/Library/Preferences/StageManager.BD092818F67280F4B42B048 77600987F0111B594.1/Local Store/dmp

Search for a folder similar to this:

    C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Roaming\StageManager.BD092818F67280F4B42B04877600 987F0111B594.1\Local Store

Of course the user name and those numbers will likely be different.

Delete it. You’ll lose any local folios but that should hopefully get you up and running again.

I have hidden files viewable on my system. If a search doesn’t show this you may have to do that on yours.

Generally speaking you shouldn't be accessing folio files directly. What are you trying to accomplish?

We do not expose the inner formats of .folios. All the editing and capabilities are exposed through InDesign, Folio Builder Panel, and Folio Producer. There is no functionality for exporting or converting it to a different format, although if you have the source InDesign documents you can of course use InDesign features to save to something like a PDF or even separate image files.

is there a way then, to move a project from one machine to another? either via creative cloud or by exporting/importing?

You can move the source InDesign documents from one place to another using the Package feature in InDesign. If you want to share the finished folio you can use the Share command in Folio Builder Panel's fly-out menu.

You can also relink a folio to an InDesign document using the relink function in the folio builder panel.

I'll echo what Neil says with a little more hammer. You don't want to build any sort of workfow that relies on direct manipulation of the folio files on your drive. The file format changes almost every release, the file format for each release is tied to a viewer version of an app built for consuming those folios. If you try and mess with the files, you will break the ability for your app to read those files or the distribution service to deliver those files.  Maybe not immediately, but eventually.

The DPS team has a lot of experience watching the acrobat team write enormous amounts of code into acrobat reader in an attempt to read and render "bad" pdf files. PDF has had a well publicized file format for years and yet many applications still can't write valid pdf. The world of digital publishing is changing too rapidly at this time to allow any 3rd party manipulation of folios, instead we've tried providing a single source of folio generation (the digital publishing plug in) and a variety of ways to drive that plug in via UI, scripting and other SDK's.

thanks guys, but what I am trying to ask is, if I start producing a folio on one machine, can I move it to another to keep working on it? if I share, i can just view, but not edit. If I package the ID document, it doesn't retain the folio info. I just want to be able to move it to another machine to work on it.

create the folio in the cloud, package up the InDesign files, move them to a new computer, relink the cloud based folio to the path of the InDesign file on the different machine.

If you are using local (offline) folios...it's simpler to just recreate the folio after you move the Indesign files to a different computer. Local folios take very little time to create. If you do it often, create a sidecar.xml file to help automate the process.

Or put your InDesign files into DropBox (but sync the folder so you're working locally). Create the folio in the cloud. Then you can log in/out of as many macs as you like and, as long as the account name is the same, all the paths update automatically and the files sync across machines. No relinking or updating required. This is also the way you could work in a small, remote collaboration.

Could You tell me more on "a variety of ways to drive that plug in via UI, scripting and other SDK's"?

I'm interested in scripting (automate) the folio generation for a newspaper that have 4 to 10 editions every day.

    Thank you
