It can mean there was a problem applying an update.  What update are you trying to apply?  Which operating system are you using?  What have you tried so far to resolve your difficulties?

Which update are you trying to install?  Have you tried applying the update directly from the product update page at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/?

Thank you PDUquette1964 although the crash report doesn't tell me to much.  Can you please try applying the update directly and also post what error you receive when trying to apply the update per message #3.

So you have never been able to launch InDesign and now you are unable to apply the update for InDesign as well?  Is this correct?

If the answer is that you have never been able to launch InDesign then please review your installation logs to determine what caused the installation failure.  You can find directions on how to accomplish this at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5 -cs5.html.

If you were previously able to launch InDesign but are now not able to apply the update then please also review the install logs but in this case you will want to review the logs for the update located at the same location.

You have several DF037 errors through your install log.  A couple of examples is as follows:

    [       1] Wed Aug 22 21:19:50 2012 ERROR
DF037: Unable to delete directory "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0/Nikon"(Seq 241)

    [       1] Wed Aug 22 21:19:50 2012  INFO
DW063: Command ARKDeleteDirectoryCommand failed.(Seq 241)

    [       1] Wed Aug 22 21:19:50 2012 ERROR
DF037: Unable to delete directory "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0"(Seq 288)

    [       1] Wed Aug 22 21:19:50 2012  INFO
DW063: Command ARKDeleteDirectoryCommand failed.(Seq 288)

    [       1] Wed Aug 22 21:19:50 2012 ERROR

You can find steps on how to correct this at Error "Exit 6" or "Exit 7" | Install log | Read, write, system file errors | CS5, CS5.5 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-exit-6-exit-7.html.

Please search your install log for DF037 to locate the directories which are being reported as experiencing this difficulty.

The relevant steps in the document are how to change permissions on your directories.  You may want to search your log file again as I am quite sure there was additional DF037 errors within your install log.
