Mac OS 10.5 display sleep

Dear reader,

Since I yesterday updated my Flash Player on Mac OS 10.5 to the latest version I encounter a strange and annoying problem.

Before when a Browser window with a Flash stream was not maximized the display sleep option would activate at the set time. This is not the case anymore.

I tested the following things:

- Manual force the display to sleep:

     - With Flash steam active the display would wake after a few seconds

     - With Flash stream on pause the display would not wake

- Wait for timeout

     - With Flash steam active the display would not go into sleep

     - With Flash stream on pause the display enter sleep at the desired time

- Activate screensaver with hot corners

     - With Flash steam active the display would not go into sleep but screensaver would still be active

     - With Flash stream on pause the display enter sleep at the desired time

- Activate another Safari tab / window and making that active instead of the streaming one. This didn't help.

- Tried Firefox as alternative browser, same result.

I uninstalled the latest version and installed Flash 10.1 from the archive.

This however did not solve the problem.

This gives me the impression that somewhere deep in Mac OS or Flash a setting was changed that keeps the display active while Flash is streaming.

I would very much like to have this changed to the previous situation where the display would sleep when the Flash window is not maximized (displayed in browser window).

Did anyone encounter this problem before and know which setting to change to get this fixed?

Kind regards,

Jos Buurman

i'm seeing the same behavior in flash player 11.4.  it should be the case that non-fullscreen streamed video should allow sleep if the specified threshold is reached.  i'll double check on windows also and will need to enter a bug for it.  unfortunately, OS X 10.5 will not receive bug fixes except for flash player 10.3 security/0-day updates.  will follow up with an internal bug number when it is entered.  thanks...

you won't have any insight into the bug, but our internal reference is #3330062.  it is currently in review.  thanks...
