in the final result of your image, you have the top option bar say that it is in the "screen " mode. can you perhaps change it  to normal? I would also recommend you do the lighting effects on a new layer, rather than the background layer. (its just what I prefer)

    You are zoomed-out.

It's hard to judge the effects of things such as how light will seem to fall on a textured surface or the intensity of effects at anything but 100%.  The resampling necessary for the image to be displayed on the monitor can get in the way of that.

I'm betting you won't see the differences when you're zoomed to 100%.

That said, I am having trouble reproducing what you're seeing.  My "during" and "after" seem to match pretty well at 66.67% zoom.  What does your texture look like at 100%?  Does it have any really bright parts in it?

Well, Lighting Effects uses GPU acceleration, so the one thing that comes to mind is that maybe your display driver isn't delivering reliable performance.

Have you tried visiting the web site of the maker of your video card and downloading / installing the latest display driver for your hardware and operating system?
