Pen tool disfunction

I am using Adobe Photoshop 5 Version: 12.1.

I am trying to use my pen tool, but it seems to be glitching. I go to start my path, click on the pen tool, but nothing shows up. I can't see the selection lines that are being created, no anchor points show up, I can't make curves, I can't do anything. I basically can't use the function at all. This has never happened before, and I have to use the pen tool every day in my job. This is completely impeding my job. Someone please help give me a solution to this issue!

    Have you reset the Tool itself yet?

    What are the View settings?

    Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

    may sound dumb, but I've never had to trouble shoot anything in Adobe... how do I reset the tool itself?  I'm also working on a PC (unfortunatley, lol). Doesn't seem to do anything when I hold those keys while its opening.

    Activate the tool, right-click on the icon at the left end of the Options bar to get the reset menu.

    Thanks, but that didn't work either. Any one else have any suggestions. I have no idea what to do at this point, it still isn't working today.

    Doesn't seem to do anything when I hold those keys while its opening.

    You should get a dialog asking whether to reset the presets or something …

    Are  you seeing the pointer that looks like a fountain pen nib when you activate the Pen Tool?

    O.K so that popped up, I hit to reset, but it didn't work either.

    Yes the pen nib shows up, but when I go to use it, no lines show up and no anchors points.

    Is a new Work Path created in the Paths Panel?

    Does it show any changes when adding points?

     

    Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?

    So whether it is a work path or just a path, it shows that they are there within the little thumbnail, but nothing shows on my page.

    Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

    That didn't work, so I actually just reinstalled the whole program, now its working. LOL. Thank you sooo soo much for your help though, I really appreciated it
