JavaScript not on computer.

Sep 12, 2012 9:30 AM

Just purchased a Compaq Presario laptop a few days ago. It is telling me that JavaScript has been disabled the day after purchase. We have searched the computer and cannot find JavaScript anywhere. We searched the Adobe Reader X that is installed and it says it has ECMAScript, which says "The Adobe EScript plug in allows PDF Documents to take advantage of Java Script. See the Acrobat Java Script Object Specification (AcroJS.pdf) for more details. This document can be accessed through Adobe's web site." I have looked and looked thru the website. I cannot find any details about whether or not I need Java Script or if, as it says above, it is included already in Adobe Reader X. I need help and information. My laptop is a CQ57 if that helps any. Do I need to download Java Script?? And if so, how do I?????

Confused,

Terri Threet

There are likely to be several entirely different copies of JavaScript on any computer, so we need to be sure we're talking about the right thing.

Exactly when do you get the message about JavaScript? What is the full text (a screen shot better still).

There is an internal Javascript within Reader that is independent of what you have and may use elsewhere. I believe that in some sense the Javascript within Reader is sandboxed and cannot effect anything outside of Reader.

Is Reader not operating the way you expect?

    Who/what is telling you that?

JavaScript engines are in various components on your computer, and they can be enabled/disable according to your needs.  You cannot "download JavaScript".
