No Social Sharing for PDF articles?

I was reading the Social Sharing workflow doc, and it says PDF articles are not compatible with Social Sharing at the moment. This is kind of ridiculous when everywhere else you read how it's a best practice to publish in the PDF format (like here: http://blogs.adobe.com/indesigndocs/2012/03/guidelines-for-creating-fo lios-for-ipad-3.html).

Can somebody please tell me I'm wrong, and that you can use Social Sharing with PDF? I've already uploaded two folios worth of articles (two renditions: 768x1024 and 1536x2048) and I really don't want to have to re-upload them...

PDF articles don't work well in the Web Viewer. Right now (pre-v23), the best approach is to create a JPG or PNG 1024x768 rendition, which works well in Web Viewer, and create a PDF rendition for the HD iPad. With the next release, the plan is to convert PDF articles to PNG automatically when they're uploaded to Web Viewer, so you can use PDF for all articles.

No, you need to re-create the folio as JPG. If you set up the folder structure and use a sidecar.xml file, it doesn't take that long to import multiple articles into a new folio.

As of today's release R23, PDF Folios at the correct target resolution, primarily (1024x768) will be automatically converted to RASTER folios for Web Viewer consumption.

If you've already published a PDF folio pre R23, you can republish "Update" it in Folio Producer and it will be converted automatically.

If you publish a PDF folio at 1024x768 NOW, it will be rendered out as a raster folio automatically to Web Viewer.
