Problems Importing From Illustrator CS

Sep 13, 2012 1:35 PM

Hi, just starting out in AE. I am having problems importing Illustrator files into AE. I am only using Illustrator CS.

1) I have created my illustrator art on different layers and saved as .eps

2) I then imported the file into AE and selected “Composition - Retain Layer Sizes”

3) In AE I then double-click the composition but there are no separate illustrator layers.

In the tutorial I was watching when they double-click the Composition it shows the separate illustrator layers below.

What am I doing wrong?

The most common mistake is that you didn't create individual layers in Illustrator.  Most Illustrator folks forget to do that.  It's easily remedied by creating new layers and moving the appropriate groups of objects into them.

First, save as an .ai file.

Second, each element needs to be on a separate layer.

Third, you should get a folder and a composition in the Project Pannel. The folder has all of the layers, the composition should be multi layered. Double click on the composition to open it.

    That should do it.

BTW, set your color space in Illustrator to RGB
