Cannot download Adobe Reader

I am trying to download Adobe reader to my computer, but it says it cannot do it until I finish upgrading my other adobe reader I currently have installed, Adobe 7.0. However when I do a search of the computer to find the reader to update, it cannot find it. It tells me There is nothing there with that name. HELP! I need the reader to do my son's schoolwork online! AND as a bonus when I do try and pull up his online school, it pulls up an Adobe 7.0 reader, but it doesnt work it just freezes. So my computer either is lying to me or something is all wrong. I have a windows xp 32 but computer, nothing great just what he needs to do homeschool and play spore on. Thank you!
