trouble installing adobe flash player

Hi I'm using Mac OS X 10.7.4 Lion. I'm unable to play youtube videos on my safari browser and it requires me to download the lastest version of the player which I did form the adobe site. However, when i try to open the .dmg file for the player, a warning message appears on DiskImageMounter and says 'the following disk images could not be opened' and the reason is 'not recognised'. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the player, empty Safari cache and what not but still not working. Help would be appreciated, thanks!!
