It's not about what "the point" was, it is about what we as users WANT. You seem to be missing that point. It is one of the reasons people are jumping the "other" NLE because they have been too busy telling users how to do their work in whatever way they think it should be done. I put in a feature request for icon view sorting by: Name, Timecode, date/time and meta.

That is what I want, because that is how it works best for me. To suggest storyboarding 500 clips when you really don't have to is the way you should work because this is how it was designed is a bit like "your hoding it wrong"

Thanks, yes found that same work around and it works, was more shocked by the whole "you are using it wrong" thing.

Anyway, I'm a bit late to the discussion. I guess Icon view rocks and is just really nice to work with! Really liking the way they show you if a clip has been used on the timeline and the IO points.

Well.... here's our workaround for now.   It appears that the ICONs are shown in what ever order they are added to the bin.  It's as simple as that.

So, if we want to have multiple cameras show in timecode order, rather than all from one camera, then all from the next camera (which is typically how things get added), we sort the bin in to time code order then select all the clips, create a new bin and drag them in to the new bin.  We then show the new bin in icon mode and now we have mutliple cameras in time code order.

If we wanted them in some other (sortable) order then we could do that too.    When you are done just delete the new bin and you are left with what you had before.

It's a pain, and we shouldn't have to do it, but until Adobe fix this simple issue then it's at least a workaround of sorts.

Well that does work. Thank you. And with that, I TOTALLY agree with your last sentence. Workarounds are annoying...it allows us to work around an issue, but the issue still remains. Hope they fix this so we can simply work "through".

Simply give us an option to display in the same order as List view.

I agree. It seems like the easiest way for Adobe to add the functionality quickly. Barely a change to the GUI at all. Just a change deep in the bowels of the program that either creates a sort order, or changes the one in use. Either way, it should be fast and relatively easy. Yes, there would have to be a menu option added, but it isn't like we require a new button or anything that takes up space in the new uncluttered interface.

I don't see a reason it couldn't be in 6.03 or 6.04, especially for us Creative Cloud subscribers.

Edit: Oh! I forgot to add that I am about to go add my feature request to the list.

    Edit again:  I submitted this:

We need a way to sort icons in the project panel.

Please add a menu option to the panel that overrides the existing sort and uses the sort selected in the List view. This option would only be available to the user when in Icon view.

For those people who go to a lot of trouble manually arranging the Icon view, please add a menu item that would be available in List view to use the sort order from the Icon view.

first of all sorry for my english.

    than..I HAVE THE RESOLVE

    1. Make the Bin in the Project folder

    2. Open the empty Bin and put the Bin in mode Icon View

    3. Drag the files wich are in chronological order from your folder in to the Bin

and you will see the clips are in chronological order.

    It's easy and fast.

    Good look!

I've found this fix isn't working properly for me. In case anyone else has the same problem, a slightly different workaround I've found is:

    1. Double-click/open the parent bin of the video files (this is important, don't just leave it in the project bin if you want the videos to have their own folder)

    2. Create a new bin here, INSIDE the video files' bin

    3. Put the videos in the new bin

    4. Sort the bin as desired

    5. Select all the videos, and drag them slightly to the left, so that when you release them, they'll just drop back into their original bin

    6. Delete the new bin you created, which is now empty

Don't know why on earth that's what it takes for it to work for me, but there it is. Fingers crossed for an icon view sorting option soon..

I strongly agree - we need a simple way to make the initial sort-order in icon view.  Meanwhile, thanks for the workaround Petrica!

I tried a "Send to Premiere" from Prelude, and it looks like the files got added in what seems to be an arbitrary order, since that's the kind or order I found in Icon view...  While in Prelude, I found it best to rename clips by appending text to the default name, which for XDCAM-EX is file-name, rather than totally overwriting that information.  In that situation, I found that sorting by name was best.  Ideally should have separate columns for file name (or whatever) and for the alias, so e.g. could sort by either of them.

Thanks for your feature request. I hope all on this thread can do the same, as I'd love to see this feature implemented ASAP. Go here: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish.

Edit: Oh, I get it, my answer had nothing to do with the op's question.

I've been having a problem with file order in Thumbnail View, with P2 files, and the way I fixed it is to click the 'View as' dropdown menu, and select "file directory" not "Panasonic P2". Then, since the P2 folder structure includes audio, video, voice, and so on,  I navigate to the 'VIDEO' folder. It then presents all icons in order.

Might not work with all file types, I suppose, but it speeds things up for P2 files.
