Help with an idea lighting/flash

Does anyone have any idea how I can make something like this? Is there a tutorial somewhere? or can someone make one? I dont even know where to start. I dont usually do much work with motion graphics, and im not sure if this is even the right place to be posting for this. I just need to be able to make the light behind an object like that, I dont need the object to break apart. Hope all is well everyone, thanks for the help!

    One way to begin getting an effect such as that would be to focus on getting just one light beam animating as a movieclip.  Study one closely to determine what is going on in it and recreate the effect as best you can with a timeline animation.   Once you have that, then use several of them gradually appear at different times and at varying alpha values.
