sample a color and add to swatch

This is proably very simple, but I'm just not getting it. I want to add a color from a photo into my swatches. I hit the eyedropper and click on the color. I then go to a new swatch - and it's white. I click on the color again, and nothing. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi, after piccking you color by eyedroper tool, just right-click fill color square in toolbar menu - context menu appears - add color to swatches - depending on picture mode your new colour might be in RGB mode - so you can edit it.

    Once you’ve selected the color switch to the selection tool and just drag it from the color panel to the swatch panel.

     

     

     

    Make sure you have fill selected and not stroke.

    I do that and nothing happens. Maybe I don't understand what "Fill-Color Square" means - I tried it with the fill color on the swatches panel and nothing. When I right-clicl on the Apply button on the toolbar, it gives me a previous color. I right-click on the Fill (x) on the toolbar and nothing happens.

    No color applies in the color panel when I click on the eyedropper.

    Double click the eye dropper tool and make sure the settings are correct.

    Make sure the dropper is empty—it points to left and is white and not pointing to the right and half black. If it's half balck hold down your Option key:

    The color gets added to the Color panel not the Swatches panel. You can drag it into the Swatches:

    This is what my screen looks like after filling the eyedropper with the bpurple from the globe. the color fill box does not show up in the color palette. Is there a particular setting? Still willing to send a link to anyone to take control of my computer and fix!!

    Hi, nice screenshot. Just one idea. Is it one layer document. Is your eyedropper sampling directly picture or is not there an empty frame which causes its emptyness? I stay signed in for about 30 minutes - I cannot put down my e-mail address here, so I do not know, how I can help you more.

    You can expand the Color panel to see the proxies there (but the proxies are the same in the Color panel, Swatches panel, and toolbox and you can make the swatch from any of them). However it doesn't appear you've picked up a color, and Kalajda's guess as to why is probably correct.

    To expand the Color panel:

    It looks like the Bring Your Ads text box is covering the image. If I put an empty box over my example I can't pick up the image color:

    I'm so embarassed - I knew it was something stupid - the text box was above the color I sampled. When I clicked on another area of the picture, it worked perfectly. Thanks, everyone (and especially Rob!!), for sticking with me!!
