Screen flashing black only when viewing .pdf or .doc

I installed OpenOffice about a month ago. Shortly thereafter, my screen began flashing black whenever (and only when) I opened a document or pdf.

I installed OpenOffice and installed Microsoft Word. No help. I uninstalled Adobe Reader and reinstalled it. Still same problem. I called Dell computers. They had me do a System Restore.

No help. For some reason, they had me log in as an administrator. No help. The screen only flashes when a .doc or .pdf is open. It's a software, not hardware problem. Please help.

Assuming that you are on Windows, it could be a problem with your graphics driver. What is your display adapter, device driver version & date? See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765

Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention replacing the drivers was the first thing that I did.
