How do I uninstall older programs, but not all?

I have uninstalled CS3 programs on my Mac OSX snow leopard and used the Adobe cleaner but ran into this problem:

I wanted to keep PSD, so i did exclude that one from uninstalling - but after having the uninstall of the other programs and having used the cleaner, just like it was described, PSD was still there but did not work anymore: the original serial was not accepted. And it could also not be removed/uninstalled again because the uninstaller was eliminated ( by the cleaner?) And there were also a bunch of programs and folders from CS 3 left... ????

I have resurrected my old system from time machine now ( 2 days later!) , but I still want to get rid of ALL CS3 ( production premium)  programs except PSD: what is the correct procedure?

Someone suggested uninstalling CS3 completely ( using the uninstaller CS3? )

but do I deactivate first? ( but I am afraid if I do: even my BACKUP SYSTEM on a seperate drive may not work after that? )

or no: because I still need to reinstall Psd CS3 anyway?

And when do I run the cleaner ( cleaner adobe version 5?)

The same question for CS 4 from which I need to keep AE CS4 ( which I'd rather not uninstall/reinstall because it also has a bunch of 3rd party plugins ), everything else can go...

All this trouble is because some features in PSD and AE have been dropped in the newer versions, but I need those to be able to work on existing projects. I have spoken to support, but they are not willing to support CS3 any more, which - since I also subscribed into the current CS6 cloud - I find disappointing and rather unprofessional. But I hope someone may have a working solution to this?

Thanks!

If you properly uninstall, there is no need to run the cleaner tool. Reinstalling on the same system does not require deactivation, either.
