Hi
I'm wondering if there is a simple way of making my website viewable on my iPad without being connected to the internet.
What I'm hoping for is a way of creating some kind of 'app' that sits on my iPad and boots up without the need for wifi or 3G.
Preferably not in a browser, so full screen.
Being a graphic designer, it would be helpful when chatting to new clients.
The site design is very conducive to being viewed like this as it is screen proportions and never changes in size.
Obviously, I know that this is possible on my laptop as the files are sat on my hard drive and I can open the whole site through a browser, without being online.
(although I still get a browser window, which I'd rather not have)
Any thoughts, or is this a huge undertaking?
Many thanks.
Dan

I don't know of a simple way of doing it.
To create an app and load it on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, you need an iOS developer's account with Apple. You also need to generate a provisioning certificate using Xcode. I've done it to test PhoneGap apps, and quite frankly it was a real pain.
An alternative would be to use the appcache, which makes a website available offline. See http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/appcache/beginner/.

It's a paid app but works like a charm.

There is something called SiteSucker in the App store that says you can download entire sites to your phone and browse them off line.
I've never used it but some folks in the Macforums say it works.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I've just given that a go and it does work, the only problem is that it then views in a browser window rather than full screen.
It's a shame I can't then view the files in the free SavySoda full screen browser I've downloaded.
Close but no cigar!

Adobe Shadow lets you view your creations on almost any device. Maybe give that a look?
This looked very promising but having read in to it a bit more, I think I would have to have my laptop with me as well for it to stream the files from.
It's basically a tool for previewing your site on phones and tablets.
I may be wrong though, I'm going to read up on it a bit more.
Cheers

Offline Pages & Browse Later both look like they could be the answer to my problem.
But I need to do a bit more research to find you can view sites in full screen, if so, I'm sorted!
Thanks mate.

As a creative, I use Dropbox app for ipad and it works great. Put all design samples in a folder and no internet needed. I think the actual work or design samples is more relevant.
Thanks AD.
This is another option but it would be my worst case scenario.
Viewing my site allows me to navigate round the various sections of my portfolio easily, without having to be going through folders etc.

I was wondering since the majority of actual web viewers won't be seeing your client's sites as full screen, why you would want to preview it that way and need to explain why it doesn't have the same appearance "from the meeting" when they view it after it goes live?
I understand browser windows are not exacly worthy of any design awards, but wouldn't you think showing them "the real deal" would be better than previewing it in a way they likely won't or, in some cases, can't see it?

Hi Jon.
I probably haven't explained myself properly, I'm not a web designer I'm a graphic designer.
I have a website which I have designed of my own portfolio of design work.
It would be great to take an iPad in to meetings/interviews etc and show people my work.
Currently my site sits perfectly on the screen of an iPad and looks great (no scrolling needed), provided it's full screen.
(using 'SavySoda full screen browser' removes the browser window and it all looks lovely)
But if it's viewed on a browser that isn't full screen it gets nudged down a bit.
Which means I lose a small but important part of the bottom of my site and means using downward scrolling and it just looks ugly.
So, generally using SavySoda is fine but obviously relies on there being Wifi wherever I'm showing my work.
Nowadays most places do, but it would be handy to be able to go to a meeting and not have to start fiddling round with wifi passwords etc before showing my work.
So, that's why i'm trying to find a way of showing my site offline and full screen.
Hope this makes sense now!
It sounds like 'Offline Pages' or 'Browse Later' apps could be what I need, provided these have a full screen mode.
I just need to get that information from the developers before I fork out £4.99 or whatever they cost.
Sitesucker worked perfectly but unfortunately doesn't have a full screen mode.
Still open to other suggestions though!
Cheers.

I have been using Kiosk Pro: http://www.kioskproapp.com, http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/kiosk-pro-lite/id409906264?mt=8
It allows full screen and also offline browsing, however you will need to pay for that functionality. The free version doesn't have the offline browsing.

Rik, you are a superstar.
That seems to be exactly what i'm looking for.
Provided it does everything it promises, £2.99 seems like a fair price too.
Thanks, Rik, you've potentially solved my problem!
