Some people are not well informed or smart, but others know about the camera's and the touch screen's resolution, still and video capabilities, quaIity of the lens, battery life, ammount of RAM [on] and speed of the new processor, size, weight, apps, ease of repairs, waranty/customer service and even prior art (patent/copyright issues).
Recently sarcasm has been incrisingly becoming ironic, as if the new generations and some of the old ones are forgetting definitions or never knew them.
I hope it's not your (generic) case.
that too : )
but wait a minute, FB's stock is down but analysts are hopeful

Yes, there IS a joke in there, and a "pointed" one at that.
Going back to just before the release of the iPhone 5, one "man on the street" reporter took a new iPhone 4S out to the masses, and asked for their review of the iPhone 5. The edited footage had many praising what they were led to believe was the iPhone 5. Some even held up their own 4S's beside it, commenting about how much smaller, thinner, brighter, and with a larger display, that phone was vs their own 4S. What they did not realize was they were comparing a 4S to a 4S.
I do not know how many people caught the trick, and were edited out of the footage, but it WAS humorous, at least to me.

Since Windows, many, many more.
It's like the difference between Sony Beta VCR vs VHS. Sony was the better machine but VHS cornered the market. How? They got media to produce for VHS.
The drive to MS x86 was led by multi-sourcing. I was around the EE world when the decision was made. Many engineers had their pet computers including Apple, especially Apple. But the need for networking and the plethora of machines that could not talk together forced a common denominator, and that was the MS x86, because of the great multi-sourcing and specific configurations possible.
Apple's superiority was Apple's to lose. But they survive and thrive. Good!
Sony Beta was used by professionals exclusevely for a very long time.
Apple never lost its superiority, just the market share, which is proof of the Windows user's blindness (if you think about it as numbers : )
Why is the iPhone a reason for platform war? Windows phones (and their users) are inferior by far.
Q: Why do people buy Macintoshes?
A: The boxes PCs come in are too hard for them to open.

Apple was "about to fold up" for at least ten years, while all the advertising agencies in the US, most printers and a lot of artists and schools were using it.
I thought that we were discussing platform quality, not financial sucess history.
Gates invested $200M in a platform that was making him $400M in Word/Excell sales and wasn't open-source Linux (his real enemy).
When you present "facts" in an argument, make sure that you have them straight.
It's all kind of moot anyway, because both companies are moving decidedly away from making serious software to chase the toy market. Bill Gates is no longer leading, and the businessmen are raping Microsoft, so the Microsoft bashers need only wait about a month to see how Windows 8 looks.
Unix is unfortunately not the future. But I don't know what is. Maybe someone will resurrect VMS or a derivative of the core of Windows to take serious computing into the future.
Meanwhile we dinosaurs continue to try to do work on our desktop computers.
All in fun, LTsFolly - I just wanted you to know that there are those of us who grin at your jokes about Windows because we really do know better. ![]()

Keeping facts straight, Bill Gates net worth is around $60x10^9. The return on Office sales can't hardly be found on that balance sheet. If you were about to go under and your rich uncle lent you the value of pocket change, if that to restart the process, your uncle probably wouldn't even ask for repayment, but perhaps only to allow the introduction of his product/process into your company.
So far as platforms, the differences are reaching the vanishing point:

Linux always has been the real competitor, but the slow development process guaranteed that to be gnat like. That is changing now. I notice that many of the contract positions being offered by Intel demands proficiency in Linux and not just Ubuntu. (It's a non-factor.) Also, Linux is becoming another tool in problem solving on PC particularly peripherals. Got a keyboard problem? Boot directly to Ubuntu from the disk and see if it works.
In any case, platform wars are a thing of the past, imo anyway. What's left is botique variations, which can be found on PC as well as Apple:
LT will probably shred this as is his wont to do, and that's ok.
It's a free (almost!) country.
It seems to me that this is becoming magnanimous country for those who consider themselves elite.
Just try to parse this (if you can; I know you can't : )
Macs run Windows and Linux.
(how it that not superiority?)
Also, if you remember (I know you don't : ) I didn't start this miniature war, a Windows fanboy did, not long ago; look up!
I've been a Windows user since 1992. I'm happy with my selection and know my way around. I also own two PPC Macs.
The thing that impressed the most was going to MacWorld Expo in San Francisco and finding out the only place selling Mac anti-virus software was a small booth in the far corner of the exhibit hall. ![]()
I'd gladly recommend Macs to anyone who doesn't have time to know about or care about malware. In fact if your livelihood depends on meeting deadlines especially in the field, and you have no patience for chasing down tech problems, go for a Mac. Odds may not be perfect, but they are better.
I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII for my smartphone. I like how Google Maps functions on it. (In Android's version, I tap on a bus stop icon for all the lines and their departures, Google Maps on iPhone/iPad insisted I plan a route.)
I have an iPad 3. Happy with it and I like the iOS 6 improvements.
Right tool for the right job, I says.

Absolutely correct! Neither Windows nor Linux need to run an Apple OS. However, for some strange reason, Apple users need to - or find it useful to - run a Windows or Linux OS. Mmmm... that is superiority as you put it... ![]()
If you say that everyone should be like you and should know what they're doing TO computers, I say: that would be nice, but there are many who know how to do many things ON computers without building them, upgrading components, protecting them against malware…
That's the reason why automatic transmissions were put on cars. Not everyone is a race car driver or mechanic.
When the Knoll brothers started working on Photoshop, they consulted not only other programmers but printers and painters and photographers, not knowing if they were going to learn the intricacies of cybernetics, or be able to do a better job with the new tool.
Do I have to be a metallurgical scientist to use a hammer or a cisel? NO.

I was just testing immage insertion in HTML. Disregard it! : )
I don't think I was making the point that you have to be an engineer to use Windows. My point was malware. The condition is that if it's going to be a distraction to getting work done,Macs are an excellent solution. I never take an "brand loyalty" approach, but a toolbox approach. Pick what gets your work done and realize some tools do require somewhat more know-how than others.
One recent example:
I just got a Dell laptop. One problem is that on Windows 7, PSD files display as icons, not thumbnails. Without debating whether Microsoft or Adobe should be fixing this, I buy a third party codec package. All is well. Almost. There is a PDF codec in the package that kills Acrobat's PDF thumbnails. I uninstall and reinstall with the PDF codec unchecked. Now I'm back in business. I don't think Mac users have to deal with this.
While there are those Windows users that prefer towers and all kinds of modding, I own laptops because I do want to get on with web surfing and many other programs like Photoshop. The ability to upgrade memory and drives are enough for me.
As to whether others prefer Macs or Linux, I don't sweat it. I assume for the most part they know what they are doing.
I think that the forum should get a spell checker, and maybe a database of previous terms used [jokes?].
Can't ID the fried meat reference. Sounds like a possibly good recipe of Romanian skinless sausages.

Gener, I don't doubt you, but shunith I kindah do.
Typing in this box can be surprising. The cursor moves at times in mysterious ways.
LTsFolly: The forum spell check is in there, but I'll admit to forgetting to run that before posting. ![]()
On the the right side of the posting screen. As long as the Edit option is at the bottom of your post, you can always tidy it up.
Perhaps shunith can explain "fried meat in a bun" for those of us who don't get it. ![]()
Thank you!
I should've taken the time to explore the page better, but think that preferences for language and possibly dynamic spelling would be in order.
I'm only interested in the fried meat reference for eventual vernacular value; I can tell that it is some form of humorless derogative.
I've been in this country and on the Internet a long time but I can easier read Faulkner than I can forums.
At a school for truckers, the instructor is quizzing his students on emergency procedures, and he puts forth this scenario:
You and Leroy are taking turns driving a big rig cross country. It's your turn to drive, Leroy's turn to sleep. As you descend a steep mountain grade, the brakes fail, there is no place to pull over and at the bottom of the grade are railroad tracks with several freight trains slowly crossing your path. What do you do?
There's a long silence. Finally a student raises his hand.
I'd wake Leroy.
Wake Leroy?? Why??
Because Leroy ain't never seen an accident like the one we're going to have!
This is not a joke, but a visual/audio oxymoron.
The jokes may follow in posts or thought:
