Does a Lightroom 3 serial # work for Lightroom 4?

Hi- I bought and registered Lightroom 3 a few years ago and have my serial number saved. Since then, that computer has died but I know you are supposed to be able to enter the serial number after downloading Lightroom on the new computer. However, the new Lightroom isn't accepting this #. Anyone else have a problem like this? Is it possible that serial numbers from old versions don't work on the newer ones? I'm currently using the trial since I have some work to do on the program but would love to have my account on there! Thanks for your input.

Lightroom 4 requires a new serial number. Your LR 3.x serial number only works on 3.0-3.6 versions.

You can always reinstall Lightroom 3.6 by downloading it from Adobe and reentering your old serial number.

Do you suggest I untinstall 4, re-install 3.6 and update to 4 then? Thanks for your response.

Won't do any good, unless you have purchased a Lightroom 4 serial number (unless you want to use LR4 for the 30-day free trial)

Yes, to use LR3 again, reinstall 3.6 and enter your LR3 serial number.

If you want to use LR4 then you'll have to pay for the LR4 upgrade and get a new LR4 serial number.
