prevent all the annoying notes folders?

I've never used the Notes function, and in 8, Dreamweaver consistently keeps creating extra _notes files everywhere. I'm sure this is handy for some, but it makes me batty. Is there a way to tell it quit creating these!?

Look at Sites/Manage sites, Pick the site you want to look at site
Definition for each site under Advanced/Design Notes uncheck Maintain Design
Notes.

Hi Baxter,

Thanks, but that's the first thing I did, and it didn't make a difference. It did work on the old MX, but 8 keeps generating the files regardless of the "maintain design notes" setting.

I too am having this notes problem.

I have turned off the option in site manager and installed the latest updates.

But these notes folders keep appearing and as I don't use flash they are very annoying, any advice on how to stop them appearing would be appreciated, thanks

Best thing? Ignore it. It wil not affect your site, they won't get
uploaded and won't get in the way of your coding.

Put them out of your mind.

gee, that's helpful, lled.

if it was one or two files, it wouldn't be a big deal. but every single folder dreamweaver accesses in every single site I work on, gets a new _notes files generated. it clutters up fast.

i can't believe this only bothers two users.

It's annonying and completely useless... but I've learned to ignore this
failing of Dreamweaver... as there are so many others that tend to drive me
more crazy...

It's definitely not completely useless. That's where DW keeps scratch notes
about the files in that directory. It hasn't bothered me in 8.2 years.

Again, get over it. The total file size would barely break 4-5k.

If you ignore them they won't do you any harm.

If you can tell me any part of your web creation process that is hampered by
their existence I am all ears.

This is the first time I have posted here and judging by the tone and unhelpful responses it will be the last.

If you uncheck the option but it still keeps happerning then surely it's a bug and someone should know about it.

I know who should get over it.

Have a good look at yourselves.

Can somebody inform me how to delete the previous message? It is taking up
valuable space on my hard drive and I can't read any other groups knowing it
is here.

What is *your* business here?

The OP asked a question borne out of some irrational need to remove
something that does not impede her web design process one iota.

The OP had it suggested to her, quite nicely I believe, to simply ignore the
notes folders - they take up next to no space, do not get uploaded to the
server and do not stop you creating the most beautiful websites in the
world.

It was the OPs indignant response and holier than though attitude you are
picking up on, not my sarcasm in response.

I agree with susanagallardo. I have the same problem with the notes folder showing up in all my directories. It's totally annoying.

Why exactly is it annoying? Be specific.

It doesn't affect the functionality of DW in any way - they don't get
uploaded, they don't bother you in creation of web pages and so forth.

ILed, the reason some people find it annoying is because no one like to deal with to many folders. You must admit it can get a bit annoying if you have a lot of folders anyway as the notes issue effectively doubles them. So i can see why some people would like to turn it off and I would enrage anyone who nose how to fix the DW8 bug or a workaround to say how.

Having said that, I agree with Murray and New Guy, they are there for a reason and are sufficiently miner an inconvenience to be ignored. However, there is no harm in knowing how to turn them off.

No, it doesn't. It doesn't affect the browsing within Dreamweaver. It only
affects these people somehow offended by these folders. They affect
NOTHING.

The same sort of people who are worried by these folders are the same sort
that enter your house and straighten the pictures on the walls and make sure
all your books have their spines level with each other.

The creation of _notes folders also annoyed me. But the TechNote referred above explains an important point: these folders maintain sync info. So it's not a bug but a somewhat strange option developers took to storage file information.

I don't like all of the _notes folders keep appearing, either. If the user is given the choice of whether or not to have them created, then I don't see what's wrong with expecting the software to perform a certain way. This isn't freeware, after all. Also, maybe the irritation doesn't begin with Dreamweaver but stems from software companies making too many decisions about how we should set software options, which settings are safe for our web browsers etc., etc., etc. I'm not really upset about the _notes issue but I really wonder why anyone else would get so irate about whether those files bother me or not? I hope this isn't a case of "Forum Rage"!

Someone asked who cares if the notes folders are there? Many users pro's do. Here's our story:

These _notes files have been a PIA ever since DW introduced them. Many album generation applications, including JAlbum which we use, choke on them when updating the image content albums. We manually have to remove them before updating album folder, which is wearing very thin with a 7200+ directory within albums site....
Not Synchronizing such a large site is unthinkable, so the lame "fix" that Adobe posted of not using sync is out of the question.

We have used DW since Macromedia version 1, and for the first time we are actually looking to see what else is out there unless Adobe can fix this. Prior versions of DW worked just fine without this code mangling crap.

I agree that the creating of _notes folders everywhere is very annoying. I love how people such as "lled" assume everyone uses Dreamweaver the way he does. Dreamweaver isn't an all-in-one tool, I normally use a couple of tools during development and maintenance of a website. The _notes folders every where can make your nicely laid out directories look like a battleground, and when trying to upload, zip or do anything with your site directory outside of dreamweaver, these annoying _notes folders are sent along or packaged with your website.

The best way to action these _notes folders is to search your website directories for the term "_notes". This will show all the _notes folders under a specific directory. You can then either delete them (which only lasts until dreamweaver recreates them), or you can select them all as mark them as hidden so at least you don't see them.

Disable the “Maintain synchronization information” option from the Remote Info category in the Advanced View under the Site Definition dialog box. This will stop the creation of _notes folders.
