Not Fireworks Friendly

Dec 10, 2006 10:35 PM

hey, I don't use Photoshop or Illustrator..just Fireworks. Fireworks is an Adobe product right? How about including it in your considerations for downloading the colour swatches.

Hi, no worries, this post was not forgotten.
Sorry, but currently we do not have plans to offer the .ACT format. Not the answer you were looking for, but an answer.
The only workaround I know of is to use Photoshop to convert the files from .ASE (which works across all Creative Suite 2 programs) to .ACT but you said you don't use Photoshop.

Or perhaps eyedropper the colors from kuler to Fireworks, again I know it's not ideal.

Well the question must be asked.....why do you not have plans to offer the .ACT format....it's just dumb, and surely can't be that hard to implement. COme on Adobe get your act together!!!!!!!!

    Hello everyone,
I hope I'm not starting a firestorm about Fireworks!
Perhaps I should have been more expansive rather than focusing on .ACT only. We are investigating possibilities with the Fireworks team but I had no news at the time. I hope this helps. :-)

Yes, I'd like to *officially* confirm we are investigating the possibilities with the Kuler team as well. Im also investigating about creating a simple conversion tool from ASE to ACT in the mean time.

What's with this proliferation of color swatch formats anyway?

.ase is a terse encrypted text file incompatible with all but a few apps, when all that was needed was a terse unencrypted text file simply listing the color values, that any app could read.

...and containing a preview thumbnail and icon.

Kuler is a very efficient way to do colors. I'd also wish for it to be available in fireworks (or something of that ilk)

On my "wish list" would be an expansion of the concept to make it easy to incorporate into Dreamweaver as css.
Ideally, I'd like to click a color and identify tags/classes to which it would be applied, and have it spit out the css code.

At the very least, it would be good if kuler would give us the hex code for the colors we chose without having to play games with the dropper tool in fireworks.

You can copy/paste the values in each of the Hex windows into a TexEdit file — if that would help.

And on a Mac, you can use Cmd Shift 4 plus marquee-drag to save a screen shot of the whole Kuler page to your desktop.

Cmd Control Shift plus marquee-drag, saves it to the clip board.

I can't find any way to convert ASE files to ACT files in Photoshop. Can you explain more about this please?

Did you ever create this tool Alan? I'd love to have it. Still on Fireworks CS4 here so I can't use ASE files.

The user "Alan Musselman" has not logged onto the Adobe user-to-user forums since April of 2009. It is very unlikely that he will respond.

Your best bet is to create a new thread (as opposed to adding onto an existing one) in the Fireworks forum:

    http://forums.adobe.com/community/fireworks/fireworks_general

You are welcome to provide URLs of previous related threads in your new post to provide context, but many who use these forums do not look at new replies to old threads but instead only read new threads.

    HTH!
