unable to get LR to download to my mac

I just purchased LR 4 online from Adobe sight and when I press the download icon, a safari icon flies out and into my computer but I am unable to do anything with it.  It is as if a "cover file" gets saved to the computer but no download info.  I have gone to the discussions on the website and tried everything there-more than once-and it does the same thing.  Any suggestions?

Please follow the steps below to download Lightroom 4 directly :

1. Navigate to the Lightroom4 Downloads page : https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom&promoid&promoid=DTEML

2. Sign in with your Adobe ID

3. Copy and paste the following link on the address bar and hit enter.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 English Mac

4. Save the file,

5. Run the .dmg file to start the installation.
