Updates unable due to no internet conection

I just load Adobe Acrobat 8 and Phostoshop CS3 on my new laptop. I went to update the software and the system indicates that it cannot be done because there is no internet connection or to change the firewall settings. After reading several forums nothing of what I have done works. I have windows 8. Any suggestions how to fix this issue.

You are using the products on an incompatible operating system. This will never work. Download the updates manually from the Adobe site.
