Windows 8 & Acrobat 9 Pro

Installing Acrobat 9 Pro on a new computer with Windows 8 from a disc (yes I have the key).  The program is not working correctly after install.

1. Done a bunch of installs and uninstalls even going in and finding files related to Acrobat and deleting them before another install.
2. Did the MS Windows 8 compatability check and used recommended setting (XP service pack 3)

Somebody please point me to something that tells me what special tricks I need to do to get it to install/work right.
