I don't know what "won't let me" means.  There is a lengthy discussion on closing the Dashboard Client widget on the Apple forum https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1850533

End it using Activity Monitor.

Unfortunately, it won't let me quit any dashboard processes.

Thank you so much. I feel relieved, and awkward at the same time, of not thinking that i could try doing it on my own

You're welcome.  And I'm sorry I couldn't be of more direct help; I do not know Mac OS at all - I solely rely on Google searches here.

Unfortunately, going through all the widgets, closing them, quitting the dashboard, installing Adobe whatever, then reinstalling all the widgets is a complete PITA.

There is a widget called Dashquit 3.0 which is supposed to turn dashboard off. When I tried it with 10.9.3, It quit dashboard, but dashboard started back up immediately, preventing the Adobe install. I then looked at other answers which recommended turning the dashboard process off using Activity Monitor. Same results - using either Quit or Force Quit, dashboard stopped for a millisecond then restarted.

The thing that finally worked for me after all of this was to restart the computer. I shut down Safari before restarting so that it would not appear immediately on restart. As soon as I was able to after the restart, I opened the Adobe .dmg file and started the install process. It finally installed without any further intervention.

Adobe, it sure would be nice if your installer-writers were to ignore the Dashboard Client since it doesn't use Flash as far as I know, and it would be even more convenient if the installer shut down Safari or Chrome or Firefox or other browsers automatically with permission from the user. It sure would make things a lot easier. Other installers do this routinely, so why can't you?

It means: DON'T INSTALL THIS CRAP.
A software that demands to close others to install is ridiculous. Flash asking me to close ALL my widgets to install an update is more, a complete lack of respect with user. I have lots of web clips. If I close them all, I should recreate all, one by one, just to allow Flash to install?!?

Insane, that's what I have to say.

No more flash updates for me. No more Flash player, unfortunatelly.

Anything that uses Flash Player needs to be closed for the installer to work; an installer cannot replace software that is in use.
