problem editing in preimere elements 9 in windows 8

I have installed Adobe Preimere elements 9 on my windows 8 lap top but it freezes and I cannot edit anyything. When the video is playing I hear sound but the video doesn't change so it makes it impossible to edit. Can this be fixed or do I need to by a different  version.

I really hate windows 8 but I had no choice I needed a new computer.

Try running the program in Win 7 compatibility mode.
