Freehand type problem

Jun 1, 2007 8:38 AM

Hello,

I've been having a very odd problem with Freehand documents. I'm using Freehand rather than Illustrator because I need to lay out a multipage document that incorporates illustrations that regularly need updating as well as corresponding text.

The problem is that when I convert the document to pdf the apostrophes and quote marks disappear. I've tried changing the font, changing the options for smart quotes, but still end up with missing characters. I was able to create a good pdf by converting all of the text to outline, but then the pdf resulted in a very large file.

Anyone with any ideas?

    I guess you're using 11.02.
Switch back to 11.01 and you problem is gone.

Are you using Open Type fonts?

Are you exporting from FH as PDF, or are you printing to Postscript file and
Distilling? The latter is by far the most reliable method.

If you're on a Mac, you may be able to clear up the problem by deleting your
font caches. Font Nuke and Yasu are utilities that do this.

It could be the fonts. We have two fonts that this happens with. If I
need to use those fonts then I have to convert the type to paths before
    exporting out of Freehand.

I had this problem too. Fixed by closing down and restarting computer. It resets everything if you have been creating large files ... FH can get a bit antsy.
