Adobe Flash Upgrade to 13.XXX will not complete. Error: unable to Register.

System XP. / SP3

IE 8

Tried reverting to previous version. Now have Flash 12.0.0.77 installed but that will not run. Does not show up in the "Manage Add Ons" section of IE.

I have exactly the same problem on the same OS/browser config. Clean Install didn't work.

I DO noticed files are left on the following folders after failed installation:

  • C:\Windows\system32
  • C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
  • %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
  • %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player

But delete these folders/files didn't solve the problem, either.

Is there a way to manually register Flash Player ActiveX?

Hello Vinix;

I've about given up on finding the solution. If you do get flash installed and working again please let me know what your solution is.

I even tried re-installing previous versions in a "clean install" and they will not work, no errors but no functionality. Like they are not being enabled. Good luck.

Ok, I tried that MSI installer today and I was actually surprised that it

DID work.

Thanks..

(Would be nice to know what the actual problem was.)

It's a permission problem on your computer.  The MSI installer skips the extraction step that the EXE installer needs to go through.  Unfortunately I have no way of knowing what permissions are corrupted.
