Flash crashing in a published presentation

I'm having some issues with Flash animations in my published presentations.

I created a presentation in Captivate 6. Once published it works fine for me in IE 11 and a colleague (also with Captivate on her system) in IE 8, but not two other coworkers with IE 8. We've tried upgrading their Flash players but that makes no difference

The problem is that certain (but not all) of the animations will cause a black screen that the user can't get past. Some animations work just fine.

The course publishes to Flash Player 10.  I've installed the latest updates to Captivate 6 and I've even had my coworker publish it in Captivate 7, but it's still the same issue.

It also works fine for me in Firefox, but freezes for me in Chrome (though I still don't get the black screen).

I've tried putting the Fake Flash fix in my exectre whatever it's called folder, too.

The animations were created by a subcontractor so I don't have a source files and trying to have him troubleshoot without him having the Captivate will be a nightmare. Any ideas? I'm at a loss.

If it helps at all, I've noticed that all the animations causing issues show up blank on the captivate stage (only play in preview) while the ones that aren't causing issues show up as a still image on the stage.
