Flash CS3 Professional Very Slow & Sluggish

Aug 5, 2007 8:24 PM

I recently upgraded to Flash CS3 Pro (WinXP). It is very slow to use -- the mouse keeps getting "stuck" for several seconds at a time, sometimes longer. It seems to get even slower when I open the script window (F9).

Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to fix it? It sort of drives you insane.

Thanks,
Geoff

    Hi,
How much RAM do you use? are you sure your machine meets the requirements of Flash CS3?

    Hi,
this problem happened with me when I open a very heavy file or if there is some thing eats my RAM. try to test the Flash while just opening a new file and make sure you do not have some thing or software eats your RAM.

I have a similar problem -- the scripting window drags incredibly slowly on my 2.08 GHz desktop, but runs perfectly smooth on my 1.8 GHz laptop. They both have 1 GB ram. No other programs run as slow as CS3 does, even without any documents open!

Nope, my desktop and laptop are both PCs running Windows XP. GmR mentioned in his post that he uses WinXP too.

You certainly are not alone. I'm running into the same problem. I have 4gb of ram in my system, though I'm not running vista yet, thus it sees 2.5gb. I'm on a dual dual-core xeon 3.0g system, so it actually exceeds the recommendations for HD video. I have a 5 disc raid0 array.

I don't have any answers for you, nor do I have any new information. But I do want to confirm that there is a big problem. My ram appears unused, and so do my CPUs. The CPUs get used for 10 seconds, then sit for 45... it's entirely useless.

Is there anything that can be done? It's really, really useless to have your computer freeze 2/3 of the time while a program is simply open and doing nothing...

Let me clarify -- my problem is entirely and only with the Flash Video Encoder.

    Hi,
Do you mean this problem only happen when you import video into Flash? how large is the video you are trying to import?

    Hello Rafiq,

At any time I put an mp4 video in the encoder, even files of just 3 minutes long, and 45 MB big, it goes to a "not responding" situation, stealing my pointer, and sitting on something. All I get is a hung computer. I have to wait a long time before I can control anything. This occurs with small or large files, mp4 and avi. This does not happen in Handbrake.

This does not just happen on import, but during the encoding process as well. It takes lots more time than it did with the prior encoder.

This is scaring me off from upgrading to CS3. Have you officially reported this as a bug? Now that this is Adobe's first real release of Flash, HOPEFULLY they will break from Macromedia's tradition of never fixing bugs. The bug report form is here:

    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

I encourage everyone experiencing this issue to report it. The more reports, the more chance Adobe might listen.
