Hmm, it sounds as if you aren't seeing any Flash content. kuler uses the latest version of the Flash Player. You can check your version here, and download the latest Player here. Sometimes the issue is related to uninstalling the prior version correctly. You can find manual uninstallers here. Let me know if this helps!

Hello, this is in response to both your threads. The kuler website should look like this, as shown in Joseph Balderson's tutorial on Community MX. You can browse themes and create themes.

For some reason, the Flash content of kuler is not displaying on your computer. That is why you are only seeing the HTML flinks. Flash Player sounds as if it is installed, so you should be able to view it. Please tell me your OS and browser versions, so we can try to reproduce the issue.

The kuler desktop currently only has functionality to view themes from the kuler site. That is why there is no option to create a theme there. You can cut/paste Hex values from the desktop (# button), but you can only download the theme
from the kuler site. Hope we can get that working for you.

I'm on OSX 10.5.1 and have Flash Player 9 installed on Safari 3.0.4 and both myself and a friend of mine get the black screen only. Seems a lot of Mac users do.

    Anyone got any ideas?
    Cheers
    Rob

Reinstalled everything but no joy at all - I suspect it is a Leopard OS issue that hasn't been sorted out yet - any ideas when this will be fixed???
By the way I'm a Flash programmer so I know what I'm talking about!!

Hi, updates as posted on the original "Black Screen of Death" thread:

QE update: They tested OS X 4.x and new Leopard and Safari 3. They were unable to reproduce the black screen on Leopard, and caught it once on 10.4.11. In that case, they were able to get kuler working doing the following steps (yes, I know this may sound familiar):
    1. Uninstall the Flash Player
    2. Launch Safari 3.0.4.
    3. Go to kuler.adobe.com
    4. Click the download Flash player icon and follow the screen instruction to install Flash Player.
    5. After installation, go to kuler.adobe.com. it worked as expected.

New Flash Player update: 9.0.115.0 was just released today, so that's also in the mix. The Mac Express Installer for kuler isn't sniffing this right now, and we're working on that.

Random tidbit from the kuler talk archives: "I've solved my problem on Mac OS 10.4. If you check in Help > Installed Plug-in in Safari, I saw that I had Flash r0.0.28 and .26. The .26 was Flash Enabler. You can find it in HD>Library>Internet Plug-in. After I've deleted it, Kuler is now working!"

So, please keep us posted on what's happening (or not, as the case may be).

I also had trouble with the Black Screen of Death. I followed your instructions (thanks for the link to the Flash uninstaller) -- deleted Flash Player, reinstalled it from the kuler link, went back in to kuler...and still nothing.

However, I turned away to try the site on my PC and when I turned back to the Mac, voila, kuler was suddenly working. Must have taken a while to finish installing Flash or something? Anyway, it worked. Thanks.

I'm on a PowerPC iMac running OSX 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4 (523.12.2). I've had some other quirky issues with Safari lately after recent updates.

Hi adobe folks, a happy new year by the way
but, to get to the to the point... ALARM !

This kuler page is still not working.
I'm working on a dual Xeon pc here, which has had a fresh XP pro install just three days ago.
My flash is up to date, as a matter of fact I was just working on a site in CS3
First time on the kuler page it did ask me for an update (why I haven't a clue) after which the IE gave an application error, and my system shut down... yesyes, a complete reboot, and no time at all to save open files !!!!

I have a Sony Vaio right next to me too, vista enterprise OS, tried it there, and guess what ? Exactly the same !!

I've been an IT-manager for 8 years now and into graphic design at the same time, and my experience tells me this is just not done.
PLEASE GET THIS FIXED OR GET IT OFF LINE

    thank you.

I'm also having the same problem with the Black Screen of Death, however I have noticed that everyone else on here seem to be Mac users using Safari. I am also a Mac user, but the page will open for me in Safari, but not in the latest version of Firefox. My OS is 10.4.11 and the version of Firefox is 2.0.11. I do have Flash installed, since I can see it in Safari, but I figured I would let you know that this issue is also present in Firefox.

Hi, we are having trouble reproducing the errors consistently, sometimes it's FF, sometimes it's Safari. I'll update the bug with this additional info on OS/browsers.

For QE, can you verify that you followed these steps to troubleshoot?

    1. Uninstall the Flash Player
    2. Launch Safari 3.0.4.
    3. Go to kuler.adobe.com
    4. Click the download Flash player icon and follow the screen instruction to install Flash Player.
    5. After installation, go to kuler.adobe.com.

Random tidbit from the kuler talk archives that recently worked for somenoe else on this thread: "I've solved my problem on Mac OS 10.4. Hi.
I too can only arrive at a black, blank page.
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    IE7 V 7.0.5730.11

I have latest version Flash installed and on the installation page the revolving "F" video plays fine, but the Kula page is just balck and blank other than the message "kuler requires the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player. " at the top of the screen, a button to "get Adobe Flash Player" and the links at the bottom of the page "Help, Kula Talk etc."

I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on a MBP. It works with the latest versions of Safari, Opera and Camino. It doesn't work with the latest install of Firefox.

BTW, I love the Dashboard widget for a quick reference.

There is a conflict between Flash9e.ocx and older versions of the OLE file that affects Flash detection on kuler.adobe.com. Close IE and search harddrive for all .ocx files (i.e, *.ocx), and manually delete files that start with Flash (i.e., Flash.ocx, Flash9d.ocx etc). If Flash9e.ocx can not be deleted, use the Flash uninstaller at C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash. Run IE and go to any Flash site for automatic reinstall of Flash player.

I posted this in another thread but I'll post it here as it might help somebody get to the bottom of this
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
same problem here: kuler requires the latest version of the flash player, but no interface

    Windows XP
IE 6 (works fine in firefox)
Flash Player version: WIN 9,0,115,0 (according to: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15507&sli ceId=2)

The interesting thing about this problem on my machine is that I am getting a javascript error, so i did a little digging.
The ControlVersion() function in AC_OETags.js is returning -1 because it is testing for all the versions of the flash player starting at version 7 and going downward from there by trying to create an ActiveXObject
    (axo = new ActiveXObject("ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.7"); )

According to my registry I have ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.9 Higher than 7, obviously. There is no detection for Flash Player 8 or 9 in this version of AC_OETags.js. So the solution for my case at least, is to add the detection for ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.9 above the test for 7. ControlVersion then returns "WIN 9,0,115,0" instead of -1 no more error, and all is well.

Okay, we've done more testing and it seems to be not unique to kuler, but rather related to corrupted user-side installations of various browsers. Please use the *standalone* uninstaller of Flash Player.

    1. Uninstall the Flash Player manually using a standalone uninstaller from
    here.
    2. Launch the browser in question.
    3. Go to kuler.adobe.com
    4. Click the download Flash player icon and follow the screen instructions to install Flash Player.
    5. After installation, go to kuler.adobe.com.
    6. You can check your Flash Player version here. Current version is listed.

If you use Internet Explorer and you have Real Player installed, another possible conflict might be resolved by:
    1. In IE, click the Tools menu and highlight "Manage Add-ons"
    2. In the fly out menu, select "Enable or Disable Add-ons. . ."
    3. In the Add-ons window, select "RealPlayer Download and Record Plugin for Internet Explorer"
    4. Select "Disable" in the settings area at the bottom of the window.
    More info here.

If you are using Safari and 10.4 and have followed the uninstall/reinstall procedure above, try this fix posted by a member:
    1. Navigate your hard drive to Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash enabler
    2. Delete Flash Enabler"
    kuler should display now.

If you follow the uninstall/reinstall directions above and you are still having problems, please let us know by answering the following questions:

    1. What OS and browser(s) version(s) are not working?
    2. Did you do a manual uninstallation by downloading and running the standalone Flash Player uninstaller from Adobe?
    3. Has the site ever worked for you on these browsers?
    4. Any other clues to help us track this down?

Thank you for your perseverance and patience!
    Sami

I have IE 7. I have done everything you said. Kuler is still a blank black page.

Hi, Rob_QVC, what OS are you on?
Is this the first time you've tried to access kuler? We just put up a new release.
And lastly, if you refresh, same thing, just black page?
