Setup "initializes", and then STOPS.

Jun 23, 2007 7:03 AM

I tried SIX (6) times to install Adobe Flash CS3 Pro, and each and every time, when it comes time to run the setup (which the self-extracting file automatically launches once all of the files have been extracted), it shows "Initializing Adobe Flash CS3" and the progress bar moves across until it reaches 100%, BUT, then the dialog box closes and doesn't show anything else after that. I KNOW there's supposed to be a whole install rigamaroe, but NOTHING shows.

I double-checked my start menu's program files just to see if what I saw was not, in-fact, the entire install, and sure enough, there was no program file to launch (not even a group name), BUT, there WAS and entry in my control panel's Add or Remove Programs. HOWEVER, when I clicked the button to remove it, nothing happened. In order to remove it and try again, I literally had to do a System Restore using a restore point from a time which was prior to my having tried to install Flash.

Some information for your reference. I just rebuilt my hard drive less than a month ago (re-applied an image of the original software configuration that was on it when I bought the laptop, and then re-installed all my applications) because I had some instability problems.

The rebuild consisted of more than a dozen applications (including Flash MX 2004) which I installed, WITHOUT A HITCH. Additionally, I just upgraded my memory to from 0.5Gb to 1.25Gb (SINCE all those successful installs), and because didn't copy onto the hard drive all of the excess baggage worth of documents, my hard drive still has plenty of room to spare.

I'm getting WEARY trying to get this silly thing to install. Can someone PLEASE help me?

Many thanks,
Steve

    Hi

I have almost the same problem, except with Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. Everything works until the part which says "Initializing Dreamweaver CS3 Setup", which disappears after a few seconds. I'm using windows vista- don't know if that's the problem. Shouldn't be, though.

Trying to install the trial, the same thing happens to me using Vista U 64 bit on a fairly clean drive with no Flash/Adobe studio stuff installed before. Haven't seen anything saying it doesn't work on 64 bit (although the shockwave plugin doesn't at all and the flash plugin doesn't work in a 64 bit browser.

Am not overly impressed by Adobe at the mo.

    Just found this on
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401521&sli ceId=1

"Disclaimer: This procedure involves editing the Windows registry. Adobe doesn't support editing the registry, which contains critical system and application information. For information on the Windows Registry Editor, see the documentation for Windows or contact Microsoft Technical Support.

    Manually register the jscript.dll file.

    On Windows Vista32:

Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories.
Right-click the Command icon, choose Run As Administrator, and authenticate.
    Navigate to Windows\System32.
At the prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press Enter.
When a dialog box with the message "DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded" appears, click OK.

    On Windows Vista64:

Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories.
Right-click the Command icon, choose Run As Administrator, and authenticate.
    Navigate to Windows\SysWow64.
At the prompt, type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press Enter.
When a dialog box with the message "DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded" appears, click OK."

Had to google to find it and haven't checked it out. Think I won't as I'm rapidly going off adobe products which are overpriced and don't even work properly.

You have to install a washing machine, but would you buy one if you had to repair the engine before using it?

i also hear a sound, and in a strange way, it's the same sound you hear when a pop-up is bloked from an internet browser, if you have noticed sometimes.
