Flash 9 installation problem, SubInACL not working

May 28, 2008 11:42 PM

Hello,

I have read several threads about people having problems with Flash 9 installation, most of them being resolved by using SubInACL and reset_minimal.cmd. I believe my problem is also with registry settings, but when I run this script, and look over the log, I find that every attempt to change the registry has failed, because the "file doesn't exist".

I compared the screen shot of permissions settings, and everything matches, but I don't know where to go from here.

I am running Win XP (Media Center Edition) SP2, with all updates complete. I have used the Flash Uninstaller and re-installed Flash 9 a few times, restarting between all the steps. There are never any error messages, but the Flash movie never plays at the end.

I would be very grateful for any assistance.

    Hi Coronos1

If you receive a message that stated “the file doesn’t exist” it may be that the reset_min.cmd and SubInACL files are not located in the same directory. Here are the instructions that many have been using to repair the Windows registry.

Please download Microsoft’s tool to your desktop.

    http://www.supportflash.com/reset_min.zip

    1. unzip the “reset_minimal.cmd” and the “subinacl.exe” to the desktop
*** Make sure both files are on the desktop
    2. Close out all applications
    3. Run the “reset.cmd” file
    4. It will open a DOS like terminal and start running through registry keys
    5. When it is finished it will say “press any key to continue”
    6. At this point you can download the latest Flash Player from here: www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

If you required Adobe support, I can help you resolve this if you open a case from here. Please reply with the case number.

    Hi Coronos1,

A serial number is not needed to create a free email support case for Flash Player.

    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/

    Select Customer Support Portal

Login with your Adobe ID or create an Account

If you are still having trouble send me a ‘Private message’ with your full name, email and phone number and I’ll help you resolve this.

I don't know why, but it worked! I didn't do anything different, and as you can see, reset_minimal apparently wasn't successful--again, so I don't know what was different this time.

Anyway, thank you for your assistance.

    Hi Coronos1,

Happy to hear it's resolved, I see the log references ‘Flash Paper’ – Do you have Flash Paper installed on that machine? I don’t think I’ve seen that in the log before. Let me know if you encounter this issue again.
