What is the purpose for these guys, just out of curiosity? Just to flood
a forum with useless garbage and be annoying/irritating? Or does it
serve some purpose for them?

I would guess somewhat like "taggers" with cans of spray paint... just have to see their name in print

Problem got so bad in my area (Vancouver WA - Portland OR) that local stores now have spray paint in locked cabinets, and you must show ID to buy

PS - does the option here to report a post to a moderator actually DO anything?

Their sigs all contain links to websites so I'm guessing that they are attempting to improve site ranking by creating more inbound links. I'm not sure what can be done, other than reporting it to google as link abuse.

Yep, you can't see it in the nntp side, but on the forum side the sigs of both kiss4whatever and RolyRoger contain links to websites. The websites from the two posters are different, but both created by the same Web Marketing Co. Seems this guy is posting to forums to increase the inbound links to his sites. If anyone is interested I can post the details of the site contacts. We could then contact the site and inform them that their marketing company is engaged in link abuse.

Guys get alife who sits around making threads like this its meant to be a support forum. And why are people getting so angry about links f it wasnt allowed adobe would not allow it as for Murray and B wow two faced or what you have links in your profile. Anyway enough of my rant lets get back to getting product support and help.

None of us object to links coming from posters who offer (or attempt to
offer) real help. But when someone posts ONLY to give exposure to their
links, then that is not a legitimate use of these forums. The posts by
these scriptkiddies are empty and useless....

It is prejudice and that should be reported because your telling me if someone went to Mcdonalds and one person ordered 5 meals and the other just a drink he doesnt have the right to sit in the restaurant. your analogy doesn't fit.

Someone who has shown a pattern of creating new usernames, and posting to
old finished topics with nonsense sentences ONLY so they can post an
external link into the webforum is Junking up the forum/newsgroup. I can see
no way to defend that practice.

One day the bot/person made maybe three hundred posts to OLD topics.

If You are the bot/person who is doing this: Please stop.
It will only accomplish the opposite of what you intend.

Maybe you're too young to understand it. There's nothing wrong with
posting links or advertising own projects in your sig, but these kiddies
are just spamming and wasting _our_ time, which is annoying and does
nothing than adding more noise to this group. If you don't fight the
beginning, the spam rate will increase (has happened often enough to
many Usenet groups), which one day will drive away more and more of the
regulars. Do you really think that spammers will answer your questions?
