I am unable to simplify a photo layer since upgrading from Elements version 6 to version 10, any suggestions?

    What happens when you try?

Post a screenshot of your Layers Palette.

Nothing, the option does not even come up

Not even under the Layer menu at the top of your screen?

    1. Press Alt+PrtScn on your keyboard to copy the PSE screen to the Clipboard.
    2. In the PSE Editor, use File...New...Image from Clipboard to get the image of that screenshot.
    3. Use the Crop tool to crop the screenshot down to just the right-hand panel (showing the Layers Palette).
    4. Save the file as MyLayers.png.
    5. When you're typing your reply in the forum, hit the camera icon at the top of the editing window, and you can browse to that MyLayers.png file to embed it into your message.

What kind of layer are you trying to simplify? I'm not sure what a "photo layer" is, but only vector layers (shapes, text, things like that) need to be simplified.

OK, now that you've figured out how to capture the screen , we need to see your Layers Palette.

Basically, what you're noticing is because an appropriate layer is not selected in the Layers Palette.

Yep, it's just as I said -- that "bree2nd.jpg" layer can't be simplified because it's already a pixel layer.  In other words, there's nothing on that layer (either an effect or a vector shape) that can be rasterized (converted to simple pixels).
