externalEvent Javascript HTML page

May 16, 2012 8:20 AM

Hi, does externalEvent actually work to call a javascript function in an HTML page?

I have used gotoNetPage which has worked, but without some kind individual posting the solution to use that method on the web I would've continued to try and use externalEvent.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Simon.

I don't think externalEvent has worked since MSIE6, and even then it only worked with VBScript.

You could try using Valentin's Director / JavaScript Integration Kit:

    http://valentin.dasdeck.com/lingo/dir_js/d11_simple/

It works by acting like a bridge to a Flash movie, which in turn uses its external interface to communicate with the browser. It doesn't seem to work on MSIE9 (not on my system anyway); I suspect the localConnection is failing to be established (probably due to some security measure).

Or ... you could just use Flash altogether.
