Field with user input that updates entire document

I need to do the following:

 

We create documents in Word doc format that we then convert to PDF. Once in PDF, we hand these out to students who attend our training classes.

 

Each student accesses equipment referenced in the document. However, each student has a special number X. The number X is referred to throughout the document.

 

What I need is a way where I can create a field at the top where each student can input the special number they've been assigned - e.g. 5. And all the X's are replaced with 5s in the document. I can set this up in Adobe Acrobat, but the students don't have acrobat, so they should be able to do this in Adobe PDF Reader.

 

Is it possible? Thanks
