"To get the best sounding results, record audio as loud as possible without clipping. When setting recording levels, watch the meters, and try to keep the loudest peaks in the yellow range below ‑3 dB"

Nah. This ain't right. It's more like this: To get the best sounding results, record audio at a bitdepth of 24 bits, and so that the peaks are hitting about two thirds of the way up the channel meters, or so that the loudest peaks in the yellow range are between -12 and -9 dBFS.
