Extension Manager "unexpectedly quit" after initial install

May 31, 2012 12:27 PM

I can't get Adobe Extension Manager to open at all after an initial install.  It crashes with an "unexpectedly quit" error.

I used AAMEE 3.0 to create an install package, then installed CS 6.

I moved the AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat file out of its folder and then I updated all CS 6 apps using the built-in updater.  I then put the .dat file back.

I modified the Acrobat 'FeatureLockDown' file to prevent updates.

To fix the crashing, I've tried deleting a couple of obvious Extension Manager preferences but that didn't help.   What else can I try?

I installed it on 10.6.8.

Thanks!

If Extension Manager crashed when it is launched, a crash reporter window would pop up to show some technical data. Did you see that? Have you tried to download and install Extension Manager again( http://download.macromedia.com/pub/dw_exchange/extension_manager/mac/A dobeExtensionManager6.0All.dmg )?

You can try following 2 things:

    1. ( Generate log files ) http://forums.adobe.com/message/4275082#4275082

    2. ( launch Extension Manager again with admin ) http://forums.adobe.com/message/4275109#4275109

    3. If steps above does not work, please paste the content of log here.

From the log above, the crash happened on the memory object initialization of Fireworks11.5/Fireworks12. The localization array might has something wrong which caused the memory violation or other fatal errors. According to your description( "it runs when launched with admin" ), this seems a privilege related problem.

    My suggestion is:

    1. Check the Fireworks11.5 or Fireworks12 installed on your machine, unisntall and reinstall them again if it is possible. You'd better intall them on the default location to avoid privilege troubles.

    2. If you cannot do the 1st step or it does not work, you have to always run Extension Manager as admin. It is a workaround.
