RockChip eReaders & Adobe DRM

Jun 8, 2012 2:38 PM

I have one of those cheap Chinese eReaders made by RockChip. It says it supports Adobe DRM and Digital Editions recognises it and authorizes it. I can transfer books to it but when I try to open the book on the reader it says "File Open Failed" (I can read the books OK on the PC). Anyone got any ideas? Or is RockChip telling porkies when it says it supports Adobe DRM?

RockChip ereaders are not on the list of supported devices (click

    HERE<http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/supported-devices> to

see the list).  If ADE can 'see' the device and permit you to transfer an

ebook to it, then you got lucky - and RockChip seems to have told the

truth.  And that's as far as ADE goes - once the transfer is completed,

then it's up to the ereader to manipulate the ebook.  If you can read the

ebook on your PC, ADE transferred it correctly.

I also have the Rockchip ereader. I too have had the same problem. After reading this explination I realise Adobe Digital Editions is totally useles to me and is just taking up space on my computer. I will forgo the book that I downloaded and remove ADE from my laptop.

Is there another program available to rectify this problem.  Otherwise the ereader is useless if it cant open any books.

Yes there is a fix. You have to remove the DRM, this will then allow a Rockchip ereader to load the book. As you have bought the ebook I see no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to read it.

Just google 'How to remove DRM from e book'

This 'solution' causes problems, because removing DRM is against the law.

And, while there are ways to do it, there's no guarantee that any of them

will leave the ebook so it's readable.
