I am trying to let the users know how much time they have per slide.
I found this blog, http://lilybiri.posterous.com/timer-widget-to-stress-your-learners and it is exactly what I need, the time left display, but I am very new to captivate.. only on my 3rd on my trial and do not know how to actually go about creating variables and the widget. Is there a training video anywhere or can someone take me through step by step to create a time left display please?
Did you hear me sighing? I'm always astonished why newbies want to plunge immediately into complicated use cases?
OK, here are a couple of blog posts with links to basic articles about variables, no video tutorial there:

You do not have to create the Timer widget, it is available with Captivate.

One extra piece of advice about using these timer widgets: They are designed to work with a Captivate user variable that you are supposed to set up. You MUST enter the name of this user variable into the field provided in the Timer widget. If you don't opt to follow these instructions, AND you happen to have any other widgets in your project, THEN you may experience weird issues where those other widgets do not work.
Long and the short of it is: If using the Timer widget, ALWAYS use the variables too.
