Help changing colors in a black/white image

Jun 19, 2012 4:53 PM

Hello!  I have no experience in any graphic illustrator at all. I have an image (.png) that is purely black and white (black lines on a white background). I want to use it in a powerpoint presentation in which the slide background is dark blue, so basically I want to make it white/grey lines with a transparent background (or a matching dark blue background). Is this possible in Illustrator, and could somebody describe how I should do it? Thank you all!

Colour adjustments like this are easiest done in Photoshop with the line drawing on a separate layer with its blending mode set to Multiply on top of a blue background layer.

You CAN use Illustrator in the same way; placing the image over a blue background and setting it to multiply.

But since you need pixel output for PowerPoint it will probably suit your purpose best to do everything from the Photoshop end.

You wantt to place the color behind the placed image and then make an opacity mask

    Here is a video

You should be aware if making an opacity mask the yoy might have to place an opaque white filled path behond the maked art inorder to mot allow other colors to show through.
