PHOTO INFO goes to one line - why?

Hi,

Anyone out there having the same problem. I use Lightroom to generate my contact sheets which is great, but the photo info (title, caption etc) always snaps onto one line when I go to the print module - why?

Then I have to go through every page in Lightroom and click the 'keep square' chack box under 'layout' to reveal all the caption info again, page by page. Then I can export my PDF. Otherwise Lightroom only shows the first line of the caption info. I have custom templates set up to include photo info, and sometimes captions run onto 2 or 3 lines. I'm sure it's a little bug perhaps someone knows a workaround?

Thanks in advance, Alex

    It's an old bug.

And I do the same as you do, there is somewhere an old thread about it, but with no solution as far as I know.

You should be able to get multiple lines of text in the Print Module on Mac by inserting returns in the Custom settings. Of course, simply hitting the Return key will not work, it just closes the dialog box. Doing a Control/Option+Return will give you a new line for your fileds (title, caption, etc). On Windows it's a little trickier but can be done. You have to put in a Enter/Return into another application that will accept them (most things that let you type, including this box that I am writing this reply in). Then copy/paste it into Lightroom.

I found another way to do multiple lines of text in Windows.

In the Print Module Text template Editor use the spacebar to move that part of text that you want on the 2nd line (on the print) all the way to the right until it jumps into the 2nd line in the text editor. Depending how much text you have in the 1st line you may have to use the space bar some more to move the 2nd line further to the right. I t might take some tries until you get it right.

That does work in windows ( Enter/Return in Notepad and copy it) but that does not change the problem at all.

In Windows, in Print, use Ctrl J to insert line breaks in the Text Template Editor.

I'm not at my Mac but Cmd J should work there.

This is the texttemplate editor:: (You probably knew that one)

CTRL-J is indeed the easiest way to insert the line break, but this doesn't solve the OP problem.

Then apologies. I'm pretty sure you need to increase the gaps between the rows (can't remember the slider names - I'm on my iPad)

I'm having a bit of trouble reproducing the issue as described. I don't need to do the "Keep Square" option to make multiple lines of text show up, it works just fine for me. I'm going to need all of the settings you are using (including Page Setup), there must be something I'm doing that you are not or vice versa:

I really don't know why, in this case I have to uncheck keep square, sometimes the other way around:

Very strange, it works for me without touching that option. I need to know more about your settings to recreate the issue on my side so we can figure things out better.

I use Mac primarily for Lightroom. For testing this issue I've been working with Mac 10.6.8. Maybe it's a Lion thing?

I simply can't get this to not work. Having options not directly connected to checked or unchecked doesn't matter, for me I just get multiple lines.

I tried this in LR2 and it doesn't support multiple lines unless you put so much text in that it automatically moves to the next line (line breaks are ignored and removed). I don't have LR1 currently installed, so I will simply assume that it doesn't work there either.

I tried in LR3 and again found that it just works, without having to mess with any settings.

Has anyone tried running LR in a new user (which will give you a clean set of preferences and a new catalog)?

New user and new catalog still the same problem.

    As follows:

Print Module /Single Image Contact Sheet

    Page grid / 5 rows  4 columns

    Photo Info  Filename

Edit:  Filename CTRL J     ISO Exposure Focal Length

    save

    exif file temp.JPG

Checking or unchecking Keep square ( or any other change like space between rows makes the second line appear, but it dissappears again when I do "update with current settings" to this cfw contactsheet user template.

Now I'm used to the workaround and it's not a real problem for me, anyway thanks for looking into this Brett.

I have tried this in LR 3.6 and 4.2 with the same problem as the OP.

The second line shows up when I create the template, but when I select a template, only the first line of text appears.  If I click on an option like "keep square" or "stroke border" the second line will appear.  If I then click on the template again the second line disappears.

I teach online classes that use Lightroom, and I need to see multiple lines of exposure data in my students' contact sheets.  I can ask them to click "stroke border" twice, but, hey, this is a bug!  Am I to understand that nobody at Adobe can reproduce it?
