InDesign CS5.5.

I apologize, I'm new to the forum; didn't notice the forum title, it's so confusing on those websites sometimes, I get lost!

I have seen this error to appear when there are some special characters like "/ ", "\ " etc. in the file name of the links.

Ex: Sample\test.ai has the "\" in the name of the file

So , rename these files and remove the special characters , re-link and then it should work fine.

I do think that would be a good fix for Adobe to develop & release in an update...SOON!! But apparently, this problem has existed for some time...some of the posts go back a few years.

Is ID patched to 7.5.3?

There was a bug, but my recollection is it was in CS5, not CS5.5, but you should update just to be sure.

And the advice about special characters is very much on-point. Spaces, and extremely long paths, can also sometimes cause problems.

Thanks for the advice, but update did not help. Am experimenting w/links, but most of the links that look like they could be a problem, have been packaged before in many other projects. It's a mystery so far.

I still have that gut feel that it is the special character problem in the file name.

Can you provide the screen shot of the folder where you have the links file present , with there complete file name.

I see at least two names contain a '+' sign -- a likely candidate to cause problems.

Yes, those are files, like I mentioned, that have been copied numerous times already, without incident, no problem. Thanks anyway. Could they just start to be an issue, after having been used successfully so many times?

Sure…that’s why you shouldn’t use special characters in file nanes.

The slashes would kill a crossplatform workflow, as well.

That was it, Bob, the slash in the file name. I've never had that problem yet, but have now discarded & replaced all of those files w/slash. THANKS!

Just wanted to say thanks. This thread solved my problem as well. I had a link with a slash in the filename and I couldn't package the document. I had packaged that link previously and it worked, but whatever. Renamed the file and the document packaged fine. Thanks Bob.

Me too, I had to go back over 1000 files and remove all commas, plus signs, ampersands, colons, apostrophes and slashes to make my InDesign file Package - but it finally worked! Thanks.
