greyscale even though I'm selecting a color??

Jun 30, 2012 10:26 AM

hi everybody

this has perplexed me for a while, and I'm sure it's a simple fix:

sometimes when I have an object selected and I go to select a fill color for it, the object turns a corresponding shade of grey, even though I'm selecting a color from the color picker.

other objects on the artboard have color, so it doesn't seem to be a global setting.... any ideas on what's happening?

thanks a lot

Are you perhaps working on an Opacity mask?

    What exactly is "sometimes"?

What kind of objects are concerned?

What does the appearance palette show?

How exactly do you apply the color? What does the color palette show?

    Please show a screenshot.

Well it does not matter as to the specifics of the sometimes there are reasons why you end up working in grayscale.

But the remedy is simple leave everything the way it was after you chose the color and leave the object selected. then go to the color panle and from the flyout menu select a color model other than grayscale which you will notice is what is currently selected.

After you choose say CMYK you will see what appeared before to be grayscale is now the correct color.

I think there are severl reasons and circumstances in which the grayscale color model is the default.
