InDesign 5, after restarting my computer this morning, keeps crashing immediately when I try to open the software.
I have no idea why because it worked fine before the restart.
I tried deleting (all of them indicating from the forums) preferences:
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe InDesign CS5.5
~/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign
~/Library/Caches/com.adobe.InDesign
~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign
~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.InDesign.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.InDesign.plist.lockfile
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.adobe.InDesign.savedState
Tried that before and after restarting, doesn't work.
I even tried uninstalling and installing.
Can anyone out there help me?!
My error report at starting up:
Find and empty or rename the InDesign Recovery folder. More than likely the recovery data is damaged and keeping ID from restarting at this point.
There's no indication in your previous posts that you deleted the main preference files. See Replace Your Preferences
It was a long shot, but best to be sure all conditions are optimal to eliminate them.
I'm afraid I can't think of anything else at the moment, but it's pretty late here so I'm going to pack iti in for today. I'll keep pondering overnight and inthe morning, though, and I'll post back if I think of something else.
new user account? for the computer? for adobe?
For the computer.
Many of InDesign's preferences and settings are tied to a user account, and frequently using a new user account will confirm that a problem relates to settings and preferences (or corruption thereof), rather than a system-wide problem. Try it, it takes only a few moments.
OK. That means the problem is in the original user account. Try logging in on that account again, then trash your prefs by holong down Cmd + Control + Opt + Shift while launching ID, (make sure you say say yes when promted to delete the prefs), then close ID and move or delete the stuff in your original post, and for good measure delete the InDesign SavedData and InDesign Defaults files manually (see Replace Your Preferences), then resart ID.
well, i reinstalled on the new user account and updated to 7.0.4.553 before I opened ID.
that's the very first i did (cmd + control + opt + shift) even before my original post and didn't work. but i will try that in that order on another day. i've completely wasted a day and a half on this and stopped my flow of work so i'm behind, eek! thanks all for your help! cheers.
Ok so I didn't get a chance to go back to the original account to the fix the problem but been perfectly fine to use it in a new account except this morning I tried to open ID and gave me a message telling me to uninstall and reinstall the program and the error number is 16. any idea what this means? I, again, can't open it anymore and in the process of reinstalling
I did what the screen told me to do and even restarted which is fine now! It's like it's on life support, lol.
But here were the steps:
I turned on my computer and then clicked on an ID file to open and then a message popped up saying (sorry, I should have screengrabbed) I need to uninstall and reinstall the program and if I had a problem with it to contact Adobe support with the specific error number on the message which was 16.
