I have created and uploaded a vCard for a client but instead of having the option of dowloading it or opening it, it just gives a bunch of content. Any idea what I am missing?

You will need a server side scripting language to achive what you want.

A PHP example can be found here http://www.troywolf.com/articles/php/class_vcard/

A commercial extension, one I would recommend for the price, can be found here http://www.linecraft.com/vcard/index.php
