Why can't I open Photoshop CS5.1?

I can't open Photoshop CS 5.1 Extended.  I recently started adding CS6 applications, but I haven't installed Photoshop CS6 yet, because the Adobe website says that other CS applications can run side-by-side with CS6 applications on your computer.  Should I go ahead and install Photoshop CS6, or is there a simpler fix?

    Have you tried restarting the computer?  What operating system are you using?   If Windows, bring up the Task Manager and go to the Process tab, and see if Photoshop is actually listed (but not showing on the screen).  If yes, a restart would hopefully fix it.

    I haven't tried restarting the computer yet.  (I will, though, and I'll let you know shortly how that turned out.)  I don't see Photoshop listed in the Task Manager.  Where exactly would I expect to see it?

    To answer your earlier question, it is Windows 7.

    I did restart the computer, but it did not fix the problem.

    Well, I'm noticing that I'm also having trouble with Illustrator CS5.  I can't open it.  Since Illustrator and Photoshop are the only Adobe programs I have that aren't CS6, I'm going to download the CS6 versions of both and see how that works.
