Checking viewer type and platform

Jul 10, 2012 11:31 AM

I know I can check to see whether a PDF is opened in Window or Mac or Unix but can it check to see if a PDF is opened on an iPad or Android mobile device?

I'm thinking it would be nice to display a certain way depending on what kind of device it is being open in. For example open as spread on a desktop device or open in single page mode on a tablet device.

Most of the apps for iOS and Android devices do not allow the use of JavaScript. So you can not control anything using JavaScript.

You could look all the form fields and have a ro visible field and then use a document level script of page open script to hide the warning field and unlock the fields.

This is tricky to setup properly with Acrobat on a computer, but it can be done,

FWIW, PDF Expert for the iPad support the JavaScript methods that return the OS and viewer version.
